Donations accepted August 1st to 20th. Children need the proper tools to achieve success in school. Often these tools are as simple as paper, pencils or crayons. The Algoma Public Library is accepting school supply donations on behalf of the children and families in our community that are in need. Donated supplies can be dropped off at the Algoma Public Library.
Examples of Supplies Needed: Scissors, Loose leaf paper, Single subject notebooks, Elmer’s Glue, Pens, Pencils, Color pencils, Glue Sticks, Crayons, Markers, Folders, and Pink Erasers These items will be available for our local teachers to pick up during the annual Teacher Meet and Greet. This Meet and Greet gives teachers the opportunity to come in and connect with the Public Library, set up teacher cards and to talk to library staff on any material needs and or any questions they may have. We are helping our tail wagging and feathered friends at Door County Humane Society by gathering pet supplies between June 20th and July 2nd. They are in need of unopened (sealed) bags of dog/ cat food, canned dog/ cat food, peanut butter, potty training pads, non-retractable leashes, dog toys, cleaning supplies (liquid hand/dish soap, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes), plus more! The Coast Guard will be down at the Algoma City Marina for a safety talk on Wednesday, June 22nd at 1:30 pm by the Ahnapee River. They will be bringing down one of their boats from Washington Island. Please park by the Algoma Youth Club or at the Public parking lot (not at the marina).
This week our Children's Librarian, Diana Vlies, and our Young Adult Librarian, Braelyn Dempsey, were invited, again, to speak with the wonderful Bob Gray on "Your City, Your County".

Join us on Thursday, June 9th at 1 pm in the Council Chambers (you can come in by the library) as staff members from the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc for a presentation on Wisconsin's Underwater Treasures. This presentation will be featuring stories of Lake Michigan's most famous shipwrecks, how shipwrecks are explored, and the area's new National Marine Sanctuary.
Starting March 1st, in honor of Youth Arts Month and in partnership with ArtBeet,Inc., children and families are invited to pick up a Kids Quilt Project Kit at the Algoma Public Library.
Kits will contain materials to make a paper version of a quilt block, information about quilting and it's history, and more... Once the blocks are complete, they can be brought back to the Algoma Public Library for display. Stop in at the Library throughout the month of March to watch our quilt grow! Thursday, February 24thAvailable starting Thursday, February 24th at 10 AM, Teens can stop by the Algoma Public Library to pick up a kit with the supplies to make their very own infinity cube (a popular fidget toy). Limited supplies available.
Tuesday, February 22ndIt's not every day that a date that reads 2/22/2022 falls on a TUESDAY. To celebrate the day, the Algoma Public Library will have snacks, activities, and a photo-op area set up all day. Stop by the Algoma Public Library to make fun memories on this historic day.
Happy Valentine's Day, Everyone!! If you are feeling inspired to read something romantic this week, we would love to help make some suggestions. We used three different "Best Romance Novels" lists to create an ultimate Romantic Reads List. Then our staff made some suggestions of their own.

Stop in to pick up your puzzle piece to make into your own piece of art. Paint (acrylic, oil, watercolor...), collage, use mixed media, 2D, 3D, or whatever you'd like on your piece. When we have them all collected, we will mount them and display our Community Art in the library for all to see.
Check out our Community Art Project from last year which is hanging in our program room for inspiration. Kits available to pick up via Sign Up beginning January 3rd so we can keep track of who has a piece. Pieces due back by February 7. Explore our universe with the James Webb Space Telescope Challenge in our NASA @ My Library Challenge. Learn all about the science behind NASA’s newest space telescope mission, the James Webb Space Telescope. The James Webb Space Telescope is the most advanced infrared space telescope ever launched and will allow us to look deeper into time and space than ever before! This challenge offers activities and videos provided by NASA via the Beanstack app.
Challenge runs Wednesday, December 1st to Thursday, December 31st. To sign up, visit our Beanstack page and be sure to download the Beanstack app (available for Apple and Android). Starting December 22nd at 10 AM, Teens can stop by the Library to pick up our Teen Gumball Machine Ornament Kit. Inside are the materials and instructions on how you can make your very own Gumball Machine ornament for your tree this year.

We'll be showing the Polar Express on Tuesday, December 7th at 5 pm and playing along with the characters! We'll drink hot chocolate, ring a bell, and believe! Come watch with us! This Digital Escape Room will be available starting Monday, November 22nd at 10 AM on the Algoma Public Library website, on Facebook, and thru email/message request. Geared towards Children and Family. Bring in your excess yarn to exchange for other yarn starting Monday, November 1st to Saturday, November 13th. This is a FREE event and open to the public.
